Slippery Elm (Ulmus rubra) is a deciduous tree native to North America, particularly the eastern and central regions of the United States and parts of Canada. It thrives in moist, well-drained soils and is commonly found in forests, along riverbanks, and in rich woodland areas. Slippery Elm trees can grow in both shaded and partially sunny environments, reaching heights of 60 to 80 feet with broad, spreading branches.
The inner bark of the slippery elm, known for its soothing and mucilaginous properties, is harvested for medicinal and spiritual use. Its widespread growth in temperate woodlands and its resilience in diverse soil conditions have made it a valued plant for both traditional healing practices and modern herbal remedies.
